WINSTROL (anabolic steroids), the brand name for Stanozolol tablets, is an anabolic steroid, a synthetic derivative of testosterone. Each oral tablet contains 2 mg of stanozolol. Chemically it is called 17-methyl-2’H-5(alpha)-androst-2-ene[3,2-c]pyrazole-17(beta)-ol.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Hereditary angioedema. WINSTROL (anabolic steroids) is indicated for prophylaxis to reduce the frequency and severity of angioedema attacks.

DOSAGE AND APPLICATION
The use of anabolic steroids can be associated with serious side effects, many of which are dose-related; Therefore, patients should receive the lowest possible effective dose.

Hereditary angioedema. The dosage for further treatment of hereditary angioedema with WINSTROL (anabolic steroids) should be individualized based on the patient’s clinical response. It is recommended to start treatment with a dose of 2 mg three times a day. Once a favorable initial response in preventing attacks of edema has been achieved, the nextappropriate dose should be increased by reducing the dose at one to three month intervals
to a maintenance dose of 2 mg per day.Some patients can be successfully treated with a dosage of 2 mg every other day. Close monitoring of the patient’s response is recommended during dose adjustment, particularly if the patient has a history of breathing difficulties.

The preventive dose of WINSTROL (anabolic steroids) to be used before tooth extraction or other traumatic or stressful situations has not been established and may be much higher.

Attacks of hereditary angioedema are generally rare in children and the risks associated with the use of stanozolol are significantly increased. Therefore, long-term prophylactic treatment with this drug is generally not recommended in children and should only be undertaken after careful benefit-risk assessment (see PRECAUTIONS, Use in Children).

SIDE EFFECTS
Liver: cholestatic jaundice with rare liver necrosis and death.Hepatocellular carcinoma and peliosis hepatis have been reported in association with long-term treatment with androgen-anabolic steroids (see WARNINGS). Reversible changes in liver function tests also occur, including increased bromosulfalein (BSP) retention and increases in serum bilirubin, glutamate oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT), and alkaline phosphatase.

Genitourinary system: In humans. Prepubertal period: phallic hypertrophy and increased frequency of erections.

Postpubertal period: testicular suppression, testicular atrophy and oligospermia, impotence, chronic priapism, epididymitis and bladder irritability.

In women: clitoral hypertrophy, irregular cycle.

In both sexes: increase or decrease in libido.

CNS: habituation, restlessness, insomnia, depression.

Digestive system: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

Hematological: Bleeding in patients receiving concomitant anticoagulants.

Breast: Gynecomastia.

Larynx: deepening of the voice in women.

Hair: Hirsutism and male pattern baldness in women.

Skin: Acne (especially in women and prepubescent boys).

Skeletal: premature closure of the epiphyses in children (see PRECAUTIONS, Use in Children).

Fluids and Electrolytes: Edema, retention of serum electrolytes (sodium, chloride, potassium, phosphate, calcium).

Metabolic/endocrine: Impaired glucose tolerance (see PRECAUTIONS), increased serum levels of low-density lipoprotein and decreased levels of high-density lipoprotein (see PRECAUTIONS, Laboratory Tests), increased excretion of creatine and creatinine, increased serum creatinine phosphokinase (CPK).

Some virilizing lesions in women are irreversible even after immediate discontinuation of treatment and cannot be avoided by concomitant use of estrogens (see PRECAUTIONS).

DRUG INTERACTIONS
